National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church
Built and inspired by Fr. Fred Barnett, d. 2011, in 1986, everyone is welcome to visit this quiet and serene lake attraction for singles and families to meditate and pray, and attend Mass under the tall trees, fountains, and 14-foot revolving sculpture of the Blessed Mother. There is a Stations of the Cross walk, 42 Flags from various nations, and view the outdoor altar which faces a black granite wall with names of over 5,000 mother’s names whether alive or commemorated. The Shrine is affectionately known as the “Mothers Shrine” for its mission to honor both our Heavenly mother and the mothers who gave us life. Reached from Highway 5 at the top of a Drive and next to St. Patrick’s Church.
Directions: On the North side of Laurie, East side of Highway 5. “Ozark Lake West” sign near the drive up to the Shrine.
Hours of Operation: Drive through, walk, and pray 24/7, 365 days a year; Office is located in the St. Patrick Church office and is open 8:30 am to 4:30 pm M-F. The Outdoor Masses are celebrated at 8:00 pm on Saturday evening and 8:30 am on Sunday morning. Special Mass times for the Mary, Mother of the Church Feast Day Mass. Shrine Rector – Fr. John Schmitz.
