All A-Board for the Midwestcoast™ Summerfest II
at Central Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks
LAKE OF THE OZARKS, MO. – Wakeboarding is the fastest-growing extreme sport in the nation -- and the Midwestcoast™ Summerfest is the biggest wakeboard competition in the nation's heartland. The second annual Summerfest is set for 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., June 4-5 at the Lake of the Ozarks. This free,
fun-filled weekend will feature wakeboard demonstrations and competitions, plus music, food, exhibitors and more.
"Last year's event was a real success," says Rebecca Green, public relations manager of the Tri-County Lodging Association and president of the Midwestcoast™ Association. "Although wakeboarding is a newer sport for the Lake, more and more people are learning about it and appreciate a chance to see it."
Adds realtor Jonas Farrell, Summerfest II chairman, "Wakeboarding is starting to get more attention in the Ozarks area. In fact a number of businesses around here now focus on the sport."
The highlight of Midwestcoast™ Summerfest II will be 50-plus amateur and professional wakeboarders (better known as "riders") from all over the United States competing for cash and prizes. And back by popular demand will be the Airwalk BMX Stunt Team, presenting three 30-minute extreme bike stunt
demonstrations each day.
Exhibitors will include Malibu, the official boat of Summerfest. Local restaurants will offer food and beverages for sale, including a beer garden for adults. Children will enjoy face painting, crafts and other special activities.
Live bands will perform both days, including Lola's Ruin, Flavor Country Turnpike, Entropy and OPN. Several area hotels and resorts will offer discounted Summerfest promotional rates.
All Summerfest II activities will take place at Pa He Tsi in Lake of the Ozarks State Park. Shuttle buses will transport visitors between the Summerfest site and parking areas inside the park. An estimated 4,000 people are expected to attend Summerfest II.
Another change from last year will be the Midwestcoast™ Association's plan to split Summerfest II profits with the Lake Area Big Brothers/Big Sisters. "Part of the mission of the Midwestcoast™ Association is to support local charities," Green says. "That gives us an incentive to work harder!" Farrell believes the chances are good that Summerfest II could make a significant contribution to the organization. "Summerfest is one of the few Lake-area events that didn't lose money its first year," he says. "But since we've expanded the entertainment and activities, we hope to offer more vendors and have an even
bigger turnout."
The two-year-old Midwestcoast™ Association is a group of business professionals age 21 to 45, affiliated with the Lake of the Ozarks Convention and Visitor Bureau. The group, which meets monthly, helps support and promote the Lake of the Ozarks and provides networking opportunities. Members also
volunteer at the Spring and Fall Harbor Hops and have "adopted" five miles of shoreline.
Other Summerfest II sponsors include the Lake of the Ozarks Convention & Visitor Bureau, Tri-County Lodging Association, Dan's Boats of St. Peters, Summer USA, The Horny Toad, Papa John's Pizza, Malibu, SoBe No Fear, Big Surf Waterpark, Pickled Pete's, Yacht Club Marina, Surdyke Yamaha, Bullfrog Sunblock, and Central Bank of Lake of the Ozarks.
