Bagnell Dam Anniversary Celebration
September 8 - 10, 2006

For the first time in nearly 10 years, AmerenUE will open Bagnell Dam for public tours Sept. 8 through 10 as part of a weekend of celebrations marking the facility's 75 th anniversary.

On Friday, Sept. 8 , at a 1.p.m. dedication ceremony, the Osage High School Marching band will play the National Anthem as the American Flag is raised. Raising the flag will be Ameren employee Chris Lee---the Cub Scout who 25 years ago raised the flag during the 50 th Anniversary celebration in 1981. Assisting Chris will be his nephew Dustin Lee, who is currently a Boy Scout.

Saturday, Sept . 9 , and Sunday, Sept. 10 , there will be music all day and a cookout from 10 to 2. Commemorative 75 th anniversary items will be available for purchase, such as reprints of “The Story of Bagnell Dam”---a very popular booklet about the construction of the dam.

Visitors can enjoy displays on the history and operation of the dam and Osage Power Plant. Among the items on display will be a boat used for Mosquito Spraying, a 1931 Union Electric line truck, as well as a modern line truck provided by AmerenUE's Central Ozarks Division. Also watch for Louie the Lightning Bug, Ameren's official electric safety “spokesbug.”

Due to the large number of visitors expected on Saturday and Sunday, parking will be available at the Ameren Lakeside District offices. From Highway 54, take the Bagnell Dam Exit to Bus. 54, then left on Power Plant Road . There will be signs to direct visitors to the parking area.

. Shuttle busses will run continuously from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to transport visitors from this parking lot to the dam and back.

The free tours will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. For groups of 10 or more, reservations are requested, and may be made by calling 573-365-9314.
